Primary Care Providers
Midwives are fully responsible for giving health services within their scope of practice, making autonomous decisions with and for their clients. Midwives collaborate with other healthcare professionals to ensure their clients receive the best possible care. Midwives are trained to identify abnormal conditions and can provide initial care in emergency situations.
Vitality and Well-Being
Midwifery care is based on admiration for the normal life processes of pregnancy and childbirth. The midwife's approach is traditionally holistic, because midwives understands the emotional, cultural, spiritual, and physical aspects of childbearing. Women are guided to be confident and strong as they approach their baby's birth and the journey of motherhood.
Informed Choice
Midwives regard the right of families to make informed choices about all aspects of their care, also expecting that women will take responsibility to become informed, knowledgeable partners in their care. Midwives actively encourage informed decision-making by providing women with complete, relevant, and objective information in a non-authoritarian manner.
Continuity of Care
Continuity of care is fundamental to the midwifery model of care. It is both a philosophy and a process that enables the midwife to provide individualized care, establish reciprocal trust, and build support for the woman and her family. To this end, midwives spend time with their clients in settings that help women feel relaxed and at ease.
Choice of Birth Setting
Giving birth is generally safe wherever a woman chooses to have her baby, but women are usually more satisfied when they have choices about the setting. Your midwife is competent and willing to provide care in a variety of settings and she will discuss available options with you so have the information you need as you decide where you want your baby to be born.
