” Experiences have clearly shown that an approach which ‘de-medicalizes’ birth, restores dignity and humanity to the process of childbirth, and returns control to the mother is also the safest approach.” ~ Michal Odent

JoySpring respects every family as unique individuals and we esteem women as central decision-makers about their care. The birth of a new baby transforms a family and we believe maternity care is not exceptional unless it supports and guides women in all aspects: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. We aspire to address all of these needs by providing clinical expertise within an environment that fosters mutual trust and respect.

We never cease to be fascinated with the resilience of women, the wonder of birth, and the amazing beauty of each precious baby! Thank you for visiting this page of our website – we hope you will feel better acquainted with JoySpring Midwifery after having spent a bit of time reading through four key elements of the care we provide.

JoySpring Midwifery philosophy focus

Focus

Our work is our calling. Families receive a warm welcome at JoySpring and we have a special passion for women facing unique pregnancy situations. Whether it is older mothers, single mothers, mothers with other health concerns or those planning a VBAC, our midwives align ourselves with each client’s needs and work as partners together toward positive and safe pregnancy outcomes.

JoySpring Midwifery philosophy advocacy

Advocacy

We are absolutely committed to helping each family identify the choices that best suit their healthcare goals. In each individual case, we keep the woman as the centre of care – advising and advocating so that her informed choices are carried out to the fullest possible extent. We accept every opportunity for listening to her voice and fostering her personal strength and confidence.

JoySpring Midwifery philosophy teaching

Teaching

JoySpring is a teaching practice where midwifery students engage in client care under our direct supervision. We encourage clients to embrace students’ active roles, yet we always respect the level of student involvement chosen by the woman. We are also keen about mentoring newly registered midwives and love to pass on the torch of compassionate, woman-centred care.

JoySpring Midwifery philosophy collaboration

Collaboration

We understand that when women experience pregnancy challenges, consultation with specialists might become necessary. JoySpring has established collaborative relationships with obstetrical colleagues and we participate with dedication as members of the woman’s care team. We want each family to receive the maternity services they need and deserve.
